Showing actual income in budgets?
chicalei Dec 5th, 2009

Currently when I go into any of my budget, I can set the date range to see how my expenses match up for any given period. My totaled budgeted amount is based on an assumed income amount though. The total income for the current month displays at the top of the page, which is helpful as the month goes along, but doesn't apply when I do my end-of-the-month analysis. I know I can go into my Income list, set the same date range there, and get the total that way, but is could there be a way to display the total actual income on the budget page itself that corresponds with the date range we set for the budget amounts to save some extra steps?
Let me know if I explained what I'm asking clearly.
Thanks!

Yes, this is a good idea. The dashboard on top shows the income and expenses for the current month. So if you are checking your budget on Dec 14, the dashboard shows income from Dec 1 to Dec 14 and does the same date range for expenses. Do you think this dashboard feature does the same thing as your request? It won't work if you are looking at the budget for a previous month because the dashboard always just shows numbers for the current month. But then why would we be really interested in checking the budget for a past month or date range?

Let me know if the dashboard feature works for you...

No that's what I was saying-- the dashboard feature is only for the current month, and that doesn't help me.
When the month is over, I want to go back and see how I did on my budget, for both expense *and* income. Or I want to compare how I did this month with last month, or 6 mo ago, or last Christmas season, etc. By definition, it has to be the next month before I can do that, and even one day after the end of the month, the dashboard feature is irrelevant. (Thanks for making it collapsible-- that's handy). If I budgeted $1000 for the month, for example, and spent only $950, I'm "under-budget." I'm budgeting $1000 though b/c I assume I will be earning at least $1000. If my income for that month were only $800 for whatever reason, I'm actually over budget. See what I mean? So I wanted to be able to set the date range for the dashboard feature, or have another line in the budget. It says "Total Budget Amount" now at the top; I'd a "Total Actual Income Amount" line too so I know if my earnings are on target, along with my expenses, without having to jump back and forth between the Income and Budget screens. Better explanation of what I was asking?
