Budget |
Hi. I am a new user and am trying to set up a budget. I put in the budget amount, but when I input a dollar amount for mortgage, I get the message that I cannot borrow that much from the savings acount??? What am I doing wrong?

When you enter an amount into the budget form and click split, it splits the amount into various categories, say you enter $1000 as the total amount, $300 goes towards Housing, $100 towards Food, $100 towards Savings and so on. When you increase the amount in a category, it takes money out of Savings. I am guessing you were trying to add more money into a category than what you had in Savings. You could reduce amounts in some other categories and these go into the Savings category and then increase your housing amount.
The message you got is definitely confusing, but the basic idea with the budget is that - you have a fixed amount to spend, you split it into various categories, adjust the amounts by adding or reducing amounts in different categories.

Hi, I don't understand why the Budget feature automatically allocates the amounts to the categories. I have exact bills every month for my rent, utilities etc. I can't seem to just put it my budget for the month and manually put it budget for each expense. Can this be corrected to not automatically have the program budget for me? It's not working for me at all. Thanks.

Yes, the automatic allocation was to make it easier to set up a budget with some average amounts proportional to your income for each category. But if you know your categories and have exact amounts for them, you can create a Custom Budget. This is just a blank template and you can set up your own categories and amounts.
