"Unbudgeted expenses" vs. custom expenses

Hi all--
Thanks for an awesome budget tool! I know you are working on the custom categories, but I think I have a new issue. I created a custom expense in my budget called "Expendable income." It shows up on my drop down menu for Expense Type and everything when I'm entering expenses, but even when I select it from the drop down list, if I go to the "View Budget" page, it's in the wrong place. As in, the custom category "Expendable Income" shows up underneath the standard budget list just fine with the allotted budget amount next to it in green, but it shows expenses as $0. Then there is another box underneath that one called "Unbudgeted Categories," where it lists "Expendable Income" as a type in column 1, budgeted amount as $0 in column 2, and the total of all the expenses I've entered in column 3. Why are they showing up there instead of in the expense column of the actual category?

Thanks for your help!

We tried many different scenarios to reproduce this issue. The one scenario where we were able to get a similar result - expenses in Unbudgeted Categories and no expenses listed in the Custom Categories was when we created a Custom Category with a long name (more than 30 characters). What was happening - we had a rule to limit the Expense Type to 30 characters, but not the Budget Category. The Expense Type was getting truncated, but not the Budget Category and in View Budget, we were trying to match up the long Budget Category with the truncated expense types... just a mess. This is fixed now - you can't create a Budget Category with more than 30 characters and you can't enter an expense with the expense type more than 30 characters!

I think this could be your problem - you have a very long Custom Category in your Budget. This fix won't fix any existing budgets, so you will have to edit the category name and save your budget (and you'll also have to edit the existing expenses with the new category name). Sorry for the inconvenience... really sorry...
