The problem here was that the blank month was not resolving to any month. And to be consistent with other screens, a blank month now resolves to the current month and you get the right numbers for the current month.
However, your problem of getting to know the Income and Expense summary within an account for the year still remains. To solve this, we are adding a new report that will do just that.
We'll release this new report within a couple days.
