How do I create the menu of subtypes to use across accounts and expense areas?

The expense Subtypes are created automatically based on the entries you make. The first time you make an entry for a Subtype, you'll have to type it in, but after that the Subtype will just show up in the list of subtypes.

For example: Say you enter an expense with the Type Food and you type in the Subtype Lunch. Next time you enter an expense and pick Food as the Type, the Subtype picklist will automatically get populated with Lunch and other subtypes that you have entered previously.

So there is no special subtype setup; it happens automatically.

Thank you. I have found that often the subtypes are not appearing in the same type across expenses. Is there a delay for this?

Yes, there is a delay. The subtypes get loaded when you login. So if you type in a new subtype in a session, the new ones get listed only in the next session. Let me see if I can get this fixed.

A small workaround at the moment is to logout and login to see the new subtype.

So... I was mistaken in my initial analysis. There was no need to logout and login to see new subtypes that you type in. All relevant and new subtypes were getting loaded in the same session, but there was a network delay because the subtypes were being fetched from the remote server after you clicked the + button to show subtypes. We have now fixed this and the subtypes get loaded when you change the value in the Type field and are ready when you click the button to show subtypes.
